We invite you to dance and have a good time at Centro Humanitario’s 1st Salsa Competition and Dancing at la RUMBA. We will have a $1000.00 dollar 1st prize for out Open Level Competition and other prizes for our Jack and Jill level competition.
Come and compete, or Dance or/and support the competitors!
International Champion Eulanda Shea will be giving 2 free dance lessons during the event!

Please join us Friday, June 19th at the Oriental Theater to benefit El Centro‘s Community-Based Film Project. Our amazing and talented friends at Paper Bird and Des Tours have graciously agreed to play their unique and wonderful music for us all! Dani M. Cornejo from Debajo del Agua has been add it to the line up. Don’t miss out!
We will begin the evening by screening a short film about the lives of local Immigrant Workers followed by a discussion panel. Also joining us, Jason Bosch from ArgusFest will provide video art, Cafe Cultura will enlighten us with their poetry and DJ Sarah Slater will spin records before the film and between sets.
A Silent Auction** will be held as well as a raffle for prizes.

“THE LABOR OF HOPE: Three Immigrant Voices” is a film by Kim Crane which features interviews with three immigrant workers in Aurora, Colorado. Juan from Oaxaca, Mexico, Carlos from El Salvador and Dionisio from Veracruz, Mexico recount their travels to the U.S. and their daily struggle as workers, fathers, husbands and community members.

Donated items will include artwork from Victoria Gomez Studio, a year’s worth of coffee from Pablo’s, jewelry from the Women’s Project at El Centro, DVDs from ArgusFest and Reflexive films, a bike and bike tuneup from Derailer Bicycle Collective , a Fashion Makeover from Everyone’s Boutique and much much more!
Supporting Organizations include SEIU local 105, DU’s Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning, Derailer Bicycle Collective, Cafe Cultura, Reflexivefilms, the Women’s Project at El Centro and ArgusFest.

The Benefit on June 19th was a huge success thanks to everyone who donated their time, energy and resources. We were able to raise awareness about some important issues around immigrant workers and most importantly bring people in the community together in solidarity. Thanks to everyone who made this an amazing experience!
